Marketing a New Band

Living in Austin Texas I get an opportunity to rub elbows with the musicians that make the type of music that makes you want to be a musician. I had my own band once. I was 14 and we were called "The What" and we thought we were pretty cool. We played for my aunt's birthday and my little sister's sleep over. Never made any money but at that time and that age it wasn't about the money.

Of course now a days it is about the money and more importantly if you’re a true Austin musician it's about the acknowledgement, the fans, and the exposure. Austin is fortunate to host South By Southwest which showcases the cream of the crop in current interactive marketing ideas. It makes me think of how if we had the technology in 1984 "The What" could have been as huge as "The Who", well maybe I'm reaching a bit. But my point is marketing music had changed so much over the years. So many opportunities at the click of a mouse. I think I'm past starting another band but I look forward to listening and rocking on.

Different interactive marketing tools are often showcased at SXSW. For a more accessible way to learn about Austin interactive marketing tools JCJInteractive is good place to start.
